Registering Your License Key

Write Buddy uses Freemius for license management. The license key entry screen is not a dedicated plugin page — it is automatically embedded in the “Settings” → “Write Buddy” page in the WordPress admin screen.
How to Find Your License Key
Once your purchase (or trial) is complete, you will receive a confirmation email from Freemius. This email contains your license key. If you cannot find the email, check the inbox and spam folder of the email address you used when purchasing.
Registration Steps
- In the left-hand menu of the WordPress admin screen, open “Settings” → “Write Buddy”.
- If your license has not yet been activated, this page (or a notice at the top of the admin screen) will show a prompt from Freemius such as “Please enter your license key.”
- Follow the prompt and paste the license key from the confirmation email into the input field.
- Click the “Activate License” button.
- Once verification is complete, the notice will disappear and the AI features will become available on the post editing screen.
Note: If you complete the purchase directly on the site where you are installing the plugin, the license may be activated automatically, making manual key entry unnecessary. Manual entry is typically required when installing on a different site than the one used for purchase, or when re-registering a license that was previously deactivated.
Moving Your License to a Different Site
From the Freemius account management tab shown on the “Settings” → “Write Buddy” page, you can deactivate the license on the current site. Once deactivated, that license key can be registered on a different site (the number of sites that can be activated per license depends on the plan you purchased).
Stopping the Free Trial Early
Because the free trial does not require a payment method, there is no “cancel to avoid being charged” step — nothing is ever charged automatically. If you simply do nothing, access to the AI features stops on its own once the 7-day trial period ends.
If you would like to stop using the trial right away instead of waiting for the 7 days to pass, just deactivate Write Buddy from the WordPress “Plugins” screen. Deactivating does not delete your settings or existing proofreading results — reactivating later picks up right where you left off. Either way, no charge will ever occur.
